Message from President, CSF Sud-de-France, 20th May 2020

Good afternoon. I hope that you are finding positive ways of enjoying the beautiful weather at the moment, within the confines of the COVID-19 rules established by the French government and local Prefectures.
We held our regular bi-monthly Conseil meeting yesterday, by video, and decided that all CSF events across the five departments covered by Sud will continue to be cancelled until at least the beginning of September. This includes regular drop-ins, coffee mornings, book sales, etc, as well as one-off events. It also includes any formal CSF presence at events organised by others.
I regret having to take this decision, but we are very aware of our responsibility to our members and supporters not to put ourselves under greater risk. Most of our events with ten attendees or less, are held at premises where social distancing is close to impossible. Other events with greater numbers, which are banned at present, also pose problems of controlling attendance. In addition, we tend to be at the higher end of the age spectrum (!) and not always in the best of health, a combination that requires us to be even more prudent.
This embargo on events covers the departements of the Ariege (09), Aude (11), Pyrenees Orientales (66), Tarn (81), and Tarn et Garonne (82). We will keep this decision under review as we go through the summer, and look forward to the possibility of re-starting our activities in September, COVID-19 permitting.
Of course, our decision does not prevent members and supporters meeting as friends during this difficult time, within the rules laid down at the time. Thank goodness that both the beautiful climate and glorious countryside give us the ideal opportunity to meet friends and family outdoors. I look forward to seeing a few of you over the summer, and hopefully many more from September onwards.
Stay safe and well
Phil Mercer
